# Abacterial : Indicating a condition not caused by bacteria.

# Babinski Reflex :On stroking the sole of the foot, the great toe bends upwards instead of downwards (dorsal instead of plantar flexion). Present in disease or injury to the upper motor neurone. Babies who have not walked react in the same way, but normal flexion develops later.

# Bacillus : A genus of aerobic, spore bearing Gram positive bacteria; Example : B. Antrachis (the causative agent of ANTHRAX.

# Bacterium : A general name given to a minute vegetable organism which may live on organic matter. There are many varieties, only some of which are pathogenic to man, animals and plants. Each Bacterium consists of a single cell and given favourable conditions, multiplies by subdivision. Bacteria are classified according to their shape.

# Cancer : A general term to describe malignant growths in tissue, of which carcinomais of epithelial and sarcoma of connective tissue origin, as in bone and muscle. The basic etiology of cancer remains unknown but many potential causes are now recognized, e.g : Cigarette smoking, ionizing radiation, exposure to certain chemical and overexposure to the sun. Hereditary factors also play an important part in this development.

# Candida : A genus of small fungi, formerly called monillia.

# Candidiasis : infection by candida fungus. Occurs particularly in moist areas, such as mouth, vagina, and skin folds.
